Ear Surgeries

Ear surgeries treat various ear conditions such as hearing loss, infections, or deformities. Common procedures include tympanoplasty, cochlear implants, and otoplasty.

Ear Surgeries

Ear surgeries, also known as otologic surgery, encompass a range of procedures addressing various ear conditions, from hearing loss to structural defects. These surgeries can be broadly categorized into procedures for hearing restoration, correction of structural issues, and removal of abnormal growths.

Hearing Restoration:

Ossicular Chain Reconstruction:

This surgery repairs or replaces damaged middle ear bones (ossicles) to improve sound transmission. This can involve using various materials like titanium, gold, or cartilage to rebuild the ossicular chain.

Stapedectomy:

This procedure involves removing the stapes bone in the middle ear and replacing it with a prosthesis to treat hearing loss caused by otosclerosis.

Cochlear Implantation:

This surgery implants an electronic device to stimulate the auditory nerve directly for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss who do not benefit from traditional hearing aids.

Structural Correction:

Otoplasty (Ear Pinning):

This cosmetic procedure aims to improve the appearance of the ears, often by reshaping or repositioning them. It can correct protruding ears or correct imbalances or asymmetry.

Mastoidectomy:

This procedure involves removing diseased mastoid air cells within the temporal bone to address conditions like chronic mastoiditis.

Myringotomy (Tympanostomy):

This surgery creates a small opening in the eardrum to drain fluid from the middle ear, often performed to relieve pressure or drain fluid from ear infections.

Tympanoplasty:

This surgery repairs a perforated eardrum (ruptured tympanic membrane).

Ear Reconstruction:

This surgery corrects congenital ear deformities or reconstructs the outer ear after injury or trauma.

Tumor Removal:

Acoustic Neuroma Surgery:

This surgery removes tumors, specifically acoustic neuromas, which are benign tumors that grow on the auditory nerve.

Endoscopic Ear Surgery:

This minimally invasive approach allows surgeons to access and treat various ear conditions, including tumor removal, ossicular reconstruction, and stapedectomy.
